I received a pretty informative article in my email today about how to eat healthier on a budget. This year I did a complete overhaul on the food we bring in to our home. I cleaned out my cupboards, pantry, fridge and freezer and got rid of about 40% of what we had. We have eliminated all processed foods, foods with dyes in them, all foods that contain GMO’s, anything enriched, and all items that have more than 6 ingredients in them, or ingredients that I can’t pronounce. I did notice that once I started buying primarily organic items that my weekly grocery bill increased almost $100 per week. I don’t mind this when it comes to health.
These choices have decreased my youngest daughters ADHD symptoms and relieved my oldest daughters tummy troubles. I recently watched a video from Robyn O’Brien who changed her children’s diets due to a food allergy and whilst researching this discovered that if you were to move to the US from any other country in the world that your risk of developing cancer in your lifetime increases 4 TIMES the day you move here due to the average American’s diet and the ingredients that are allowed to be put in our food. In Europe artificial dyes have been banned and Kraft macaroni and cheese has no artificial colors in these countries but in the US they continue to add it to the powder used to mix in the macaroni. It is very unsettling. So paying more for foods not riddled with pesticides and unnatural chemicals makes complete sense to me. If there are ways to save money but still eat healthy then I’m all for that too. That’s where this article comes in handy. Enjoy!
