13 Ways To Eat Healthier On A Budget

I received a pretty informative article in my email today about how to eat healthier on a budget. This year I did a complete overhaul on the food we bring in to our home. I cleaned out my cupboards, pantry, fridge and freezer and got rid of about 40% of what we had. We have eliminated all processed foods, foods with dyes in them, all foods that contain GMO’s, anything enriched, and all items that have more than 6 ingredients in them, or ingredients that I can’t pronounce. I did notice that once I started buying primarily organic items that my weekly grocery bill increased almost $100 per week. I don’t mind this when it comes to health.
These choices have decreased my youngest daughters ADHD symptoms and relieved my oldest daughters tummy troubles. I recently watched a video from Robyn O’Brien who changed her children’s diets due to a food allergy and whilst researching this discovered that if you were to move to the US from any other country in the world that your risk of developing cancer in your lifetime increases 4 TIMES the day you move here due to the average American’s diet and the ingredients that are allowed to be put in our food. In Europe artificial dyes have been banned and Kraft macaroni and cheese has no artificial colors in these countries but in the US they continue to add it to the powder used to mix in the macaroni. It is very unsettling. So paying more for foods not riddled with pesticides and unnatural chemicals makes complete sense to me. If there are ways to save money but still eat healthy then I’m all for that too. That’s where this article comes in handy. Enjoy!

Travel Time

It’s that time of year where it’s starting to warm up and people are thinking about their Summer travel plans. I’ve come across some great apps and sites in my recent searches for travel info so thought I would share them with you guys.

HotelTonight.com is for last minute hotel deals at seriously reduced prices. If your travel plans are somewhat flexible or you like spontaneous trips away then this site woud definitely be worth checking out.

The AirportParking app on iTunes can save you a decent amount of money on parking. It may not be as close but usually offers shuttle service if it’s not within walking distance to the airport.

If you’re driving anywhere this Summer then the GasBuddy app on iTunes is going to be well worth it to you. It shows you the nearest gas station as well as the location with the cheapest gas in your vicinity.

The Oanda Currency Converter app will be very useful if travelling abroad. I use this when I take trips back home so that I don’t pay more for something there than I would here. This keeps up to date on the exchange rate so will give you a very accurate results.

OutToEatWithKids.com will show you the nearest chain restaurants that have great deals or free meals for kids.

At SkyScanner.com you can search by your budget. If you have $350 to spend on a trip then you can input your budget and it will show you ALL destinations within that price range. Perfect if you’re just not quite sure where you want to go.

Do you know of any other travel apps or sites that might be helpful to other readers?

My Pinterest Wish List & OOTD

Won’t be long before the warm days are with us again (I hope). So with this in mind I began perusing my wish list on Pinterest knowing I had saved some swim suits on there. Unfortunately my favorite pick from Anthropologie is no longer available. What a bummer! You can see a picture of it here. Please let me know if you guys have seen anything comparable. I would so appreciate it.

Number 2 on the wish list is the Golden Bird Trio Necklace from Etsy.

Golden Bird Trio Necklace Flying Swallows Three Birds In Flight Jewelry

So gorgeous and delicate. Find it here. Would have looked darling with that dang bikini too!

Second pic shows color better. The lighting and mirror placement in my bedroom is not ideal for taking pics of myself that are clear. But there is no room on the window wall for a mirror.

Please welcome our newest member to the family……our 7 week old black French Bulldog puppy Louie!
We already have 4 year old Chloe – our cream french bulldog, and she is so happy to have a playmate.

Aren’t they CUTE!!!

I had forgotten how similar having a puppy is to having a new baby! Squealing crying all night and waking up to a whole lot of poop…..poor me ;/
But just like a new baby, it’s all worth it ;}

Motivated Moms & OOTD

As a stay at home mom for quite a few year now I have come up with many methods of how I clean my house, in what order, what days for certain tasks etc etc. As many of you can relate this gets pretty tedious and monotonous at times. The praise the lord I stumbled across the motivated moms app on my iphone and presto…..the organizational method that my OCD brain craved had finally been found!!! I highly recommend it. There are 2 options: one being the app that you can download on to your iphone and other smartphones or you can go straight to their web site and purchase the printable package which is what I have done because I like things to be on paper. I use a 3 hole punch and add to a 3 ring binder. You can add custom tasks to the app version, add rooms, color code specific chores and assign them to people. You have daily chores, weekly chores etc and they are all listed for you. It’s a no brainer and if your brain craves organization like mine does then you will LOVE it. Check it out and let me know what you think…..

Domestic Help and OOTD

So I just read an article in O Magazines November issue titled Domestic Help. This article is written by a woman who decides that before her son leaves home she wants to teach him how to run one. She goes on to say how she has cooked thousands of meals during her sons life, but when asking him for help in the kitchen he didn’t even know what a colander was. She admits that she had never included him in the kitchen or let him help much as a child with cooking. She realized as he became a teenager that she had done a great job at building his confidence and character but had failed to consider that she was raising someone’s future roommate, boyfriend, husband, or father. So she began what she calls a “private home-ec course” at home. She gave him cooking lessons and taught him how to sew. Her biggest message that she wanted to impart was that there’s nothing masculine about being helpless. As the mother of an 11 year old son and 2 daughters that will eventually settle down and marry a man, I think I can appreciate this mothers actions. At the same time I’m not sure I would go about it the same way with my own son. What is your opinion on this? It’s really got me thinking and I would love to hear your thoughts so please share them in the comments.

Anyway…..on to the ootd –

Another casual day for me.
